Leroy Breaks Groendyke, 71, of Naples, Fla., former Crawfordsville resident, died Monday morning at his home in Florida. Mr. Groendyke worked for many years as a bookkeeper in Crawfordsville. He was employed by the Elston Bank & Trust Co. and by Ben Hur Life Association at various periods during his years in Crawfordsville. He also served one term on the City Council. He moved about 15 years ago to Florida where he owned and operated a bookkeeping and tax service. Born in Montgomery, County on July 31, 1893, Mr. Groendyke was the son of James C. and Etta E. Breaks Groendyke. In June of 1921, he married Nora Ward in Montgomery County. She preceded him in death. He then married Thelma Baxter in Indianapolis in February of 1938. Survivors include the widow; a son, James Groendyke of LaPorte, Ind.; two daughters, Mrs. James Emmert of Clarks Hill and Mrs. Charles Foxworthy of Danville, Ill., and 13 grandchildren. His mother, Mrs. Etta Groendyke of Miami, Fla., also survives. Funeral services will be held in Naples Wednesday. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends make a donation to the Naples branch of the Cancer Research fund.
